Location

The Alharía is located in the Genal Valley, the so-called Valle del Genal, which is part of the mountain range Serranía de Ronda in the Andalusian province of Málaga. The finca belongs to the municipality of Genalguacil, whose village is 10 kilometers across dirt roads from the Alharía. The finca is located in a secluded location with picturesque views of the Valle del Genal, the surrounding mountains and the villages of Genalguacil, Jubrique, Benerrabá and Gaucín. Due to its location at 375 meters above sea level, the climate is pleasant year-round with average highs of 30°C in summer and 17°C in winter.

The Valle del Genal is known for its pueblos blancos, white villages that are characteristic of this region and got their name from the heat-repellent lime painting of the houses, as well as the exceptionally lush and varied vegetation of Andalusia. The latter also led to efforts to appoint the valley as a nature reserve. In addition, Central and Northern Europeans have increasingly moved to the Valle del Genal in recent years, so that today an international community is characteristic for the valley.

The nearest major cities near the Alharía are Ronda and Estepona – each 1.5 hours away by car – while the provincial capital of Málaga is a 3 hours’ drive away. All three cities are tourist hotspots of the region. In addition to mass tourism, nature parks, such as the Sierra de Grazalema, or hiking trails, such as the Gran Senda de Málaga (GR249), which passes directly by the Alharía, attract some visitors to the hinterland of Andalusia.
