Forest

Of the 25 hectares of the Alharia, we cultivate 15 hectares as mixed forest and leave 10 particularly steep hectares as wilderness area. The mixed forest is made up of oaks, olives, chestnuts and pines, some of which are real old giants but many also emerged only after the fire in 1995. The most commonly represented tree is the local cork oak, from which we harvest and sell cork every 9 years. Also of great importance are olives, which we squeeze to oil and process into table olives. In addition, we harvest chestnuts, gain wood as heating and building material, eat edible mushrooms, wild herbs and fruits, and sometimes gather lavander to distill it to essential oil.

In addition to the diversity of plants, also animals are particularly present: toads, geckos, lizards, ants, spiders, cicadas, bats, birds of prey and songbirds of all kinds and many more often cross our paths. Not to forget wild boars, which have multiplied in numbers and regularly rummage our forest and gardens.
